Is it weird if I call this track funky? It's a modernized mashup of soul and funk and pop and R&B. Funky. Two established artists working together formed Tuxedo just a few weeks ago - the artists attempted to keep their identities secret for legal/record label purposes, but naturally it leaked. I won't tell you who it is, but this is a pretty big hint. Download the three-song Tuxedo EP here. "Do It" is my favorite, but all three tracks are worth a listen. 4 more stations have agreed to carry my new show, bringing the total to 10 stations across the UK and around the world and reaching an audience of over 75,000 unique listeners per month. The stations are Crash Radio UK, Spitfire Radio, Boro Sound Radio (Middlesboro, UK), and Only Hits Radio. Remember, you can also hear the show on the MMFS Soundcloud each week, and find the playlists from each show here. Look under the Chris on the Radio tab above for more information. Tommy Sunshine and Live City recreate Capital Cities' indie rock track "Safe & Sound" as EDM gold. The poppy melody (probably the best part of the original) is nicely preserved and amplified, and leads seamlessly into a house drop. Get the free download here. After going to the top of the album chart in the UK, London band Bastille are exploding, with "Pompeii" still charging up the singles charts (it was at #5 this week). I'm expecting them to make it over here to the U.S. in the near future - "Pompeii" sounds very similar to a Mumford and Sons track, complete with Lion King-esque chanting. Also check out their cover of TLC (sung over The xx), which I posted a few months ago. Apparently, I should know who Robin Thicke is. I didn't until I heard this, and it made quite the favorable first impression. "Blurred Lines" is the great sort of pop song that sounds closer to something you'd hear on an oldies station than on your local Top 40 station. It feels a little bit like Lloyd's "Dedication to My Ex," - if you take yourself too seriously, you won't get it. The track is available for download from iTunes starting March 26th. Oh, and you should most definitely watch the video, which gets the feel of the song pretty perfectly. It makes it that much better. 3 more stations have signed on to carry my new show - you'll be able to hear Chris Herlihy on Billman Radio, Whaley Radio 107.4 FM (High Peaks Region, UK), and Total Vibe Radio starting next week. See the Chris on the Radio tab above for schedules and more.
I'm going back on the radio! The new show launches next week across the UK and around the world, airing on Off the Chart Radio and WiganFM with more stations due to be announced in the next few days. In addition, the show will be available to listen to via Soundcloud. This means no fumbling with complicated schedules and stations to hear the show - if you can get on Soundcloud, you can hear the best new music on the internet, whenever it's convenient for you. Keep an eye on the Chris on the Radio tab above for more information as it comes.
Miami artist Cris Cab releases this track as a lead up to his forthcoming mixtape Red Road. "Heaven" relies heavily on reggae influences, and as a result has an irresistible summery feel. Get the free download here. NOTE: I decided that it's better if I just write one or two lines about each featured song - essentially just the "Why" section. It means that I can post more often (since each post will take less time) while still maintaining the quality of posts. Ryan Hemsworth's version of Rhye's "Open" retains the beautiful soft vocals of the original dreamy lullaby (which I highly recommend) while adding EDM accents and a subtle touch of underlying bass. It's soft, bass-y, and still manages to remain a dreamy lullaby. |
